Welcome to the Coven,
Have you ever wondered where the darkness comes from? Where the ideas for monsters, magic, and forbidden passion are born? For me, the world of The Silver Witch didn’t just appear out of thin air; it whispered its way into my soul from history, mythology, and the most deliciously dark corners of my imagination.
So today, I’m pulling back the veil. I’m inviting you in for a glimpse of the chaos, to show you the heart and blood behind Selene’s journey.
The Genesis of the Grimoire
Let me tell you a secret. My obsession with the grimoire at the heart of the story started with the real Book of Enoch. You know the one—it’s famous for its wild tales of Enoch’s experiences with fallen angels, divine secrets, and the fate of the human soul after death. I took that core idea of forbidden knowledge and just ran with it, twisting it into something darker, something more demonic, and creating a primal link between the book itself and the witches who are brave, or foolish, enough to read it.
Now, a book of that magnitude couldn’t just be bound in simple leather, could it? A grimoire that holds the secrets of all mankind, that contains the very essence of witches’ lives? It had to be bound in human skin and written in blood. It’s more than just a deliciously dark aesthetic—in my world, it’s the ultimate form of protection. A grim promise of the power held within its pages.
A Witch of Defiance and a Demon with a Soul
Every story lives and dies with its characters, and at the center of this storm are Selene and Azazel.
Let’s talk about Selene. Honestly? She is everyone who I would want to be and more. Her defiance, her attitude, her unapologetic wit—it all resonates with me so deeply. She’s been exiled and hunted, but she absolutely refuses to be broken. Her journey isn’t just about falling into darkness; it’s about her awakening to the fact that the power she was told to fear is actually her greatest strength. The toughest scenes to write weren’t the magic or the steam, but her quiet internal battles—her learning to trust a demon when her own kind cast her out, and her coming to terms with the fact that sometimes, you have to burn everything down to survive.
And then there’s Azazel. Oh, my lovely demon. From the very first word I wrote, he was always going to be Selene’s love interest. His entire story, his entire existence in this series, revolves around her. What’s so alluring about a character like him? He’s a high-level demon, a master of manipulation, and utterly dangerous. Yet, this defiant witch brings him to his knees. He’s no hero, but in finding her, he discovers something akin to a soul. That tension—between the monster he is and the man he wants to be for her—is what fuels their intense, consuming passion.
Echoes of the Haunted Past
This section contains spoilers for the second book of The Silver Bloodlines
[blur color=#660928]I believe history has ghosts, and I love listening to them. In the epilogue, Selene is heading toward a very real, very haunted place: Pendle Hill. In my world, Pendle is the epicenter for witches; a place they travel to from all over to learn its secrets. The real-world history of the Pendle witch trials is so chilling, so full of persecution and dark power, that I knew I had to weave its energy into my story. As Selene continues her journey, she’s going to find out that her connection to Pendle—and the bloodline she comes from—is more terrifying and personal than she ever could have imagined. [/blur]
I wanted to share this with you because I want you to feel that deeper connection, not just to the story, but to me. I want you to know the passion that goes into every choice, every character, every dark detail. The Silver Witch is more than a book to me; it’s an exploration of power, a celebration of defiance, and an invitation to dance in the shadows.
So, if you’re ready to fall for a demon and watch a witch claim her crown, their story is waiting.
With all my dark love, Corrupted Doe
